Rescue Diver Courses

So this week started out with our 2 current Dive Master Interns Dannii & Sam plus a new diver to Amarilla Divers called David. They were all joining us for their PADI Rescue Diver course and Emergency First Response course with one of our instructors Iain.

We had lots of helpers for the pool training sessions and were joined by Mary, Melinda and Andy. This was an excellent session in the pool where the candidates were put through their paces with skills practices on the surface and under the water.

During the Rescue Diver course you learn how best to help another diver in distress or even how best to handle emergency situations. The training in the pool can be hard going and we were all rather tired afterward, but the main goal was met by learning how to deal with different types of stress and problems that divers can have.

One of the most important skills during the Rescue Diver course is the 'lift' and rescue breaths.

We focus highly on this skill in the pool and in the ocean, with particular points being made regarding the rescue breaths. Our divers made some exceptioanlly good lifts during the course and they also managed the rescue breaths time keepimg well.

The open water sessions are always good as you never know what the instructors will throw at you!!!  yes one minute you are swimming along nicely and the NEXT boom........ someone is 'out of air' ...... You need to react fast, correctly and calmly. You then find that as you ascend the 'victim turns panicked at the surface whilst you are in reaching distance!!!  Oh yes we have a lot of fun during this course, but every diver comes out learning something new.....even the staff!!

There is also some theory involed with this course and the Amarilla Divers team are close at hand to offer support and answer any questions that may arise.

This week Danni & Sam managed exceptionally great scores and we are very proud of both of them. David will be doing his exam a little later in the week.

All in all a great start to the week.

Dannii & Sam will now go on to their Dive Master course and we will keep you updated on their progress.
